I’m developing a blog for a website with a tiny budget and am discussing recruiting a freelancer to write content optimized for SEO. Is it worth spending the money or should I just go ahead and spend time creating my own material? I don’t have experience blog writing but I can write when I need to. Which would be more of an advantage to me? I more personal touch or a professional ?

I’ve seen people do a combination of both. Most of the time they will write their own personal blogs but they will have guest writers submit blogs as well. It is a good way to partner with other companies because you can write a blog for them that might get more traffic for your site as well.

Is there a certain place that you can go to get guest authors? Or would it be good to just go and make a post and see who bites?

So I ended up going to Fiverr to get a few freelance writers, the seemed to have had the best source when it came to finding people who needed quick work. But I am not making connections with a few people I have talked to on this forum and we are partnering on a few future projects!

How did Fiverr end up working out for you in the end? I have looked into getting business done through there but I am hesitant on paying someone money for something where they may not have the best expertise. Did you have a vetting system?

Fiverr is good because you can see the work and talk throughout the process. You have a lot of options and can see reviews from people.I personally will work with them again.

Ask yourself a few questions. First, do you like to write? Are you good at it? Is writing your blog the best, most productive use of your time? For most busy executives, blogging just isn’t a priority. And freelance bloggers — even those with industry experience and good credentials — — are less expensive than contractors for many other roles, such as coders or CPAs.

You can try out a few freelancers to find a style of working that’s compatible with your own, and one who can achieve the tone you want your blog to ptesent. You can work completely hands off or collaboratively. For example, I conduct interviews with one of my clients for each blog post. In just a few minutes, we get some key thoughts and a rough outline of the post written down. I can take it from thete. One advantage of this model is that you are getting basic ideas and copy together that can be repurposed in case studies, white papets, web content and so on.

Establishing a good working relationship can make a big difference in the end result. However, it’s likely a more efficient use of your time to hire a freelance writer.

I mean do I like to write? Yes. Am I good at writing? haha well that is a different story. Not that I can’t write or articulate myself but sometimes my style of writing may not be best for a blog format. I do agree it is best to use my time to hire freelancers who can take the load off so I have started to do that. That and co-writing for other blogs has helped to lighten the load and get more eyes on my page.
